Welcome and Introductions 

-Encouraging and welcoming words shared by our School Council Chair and Vice-Chair to our new families and parents/families joining us at MMHS 

Inclusion Activity 

Student Council and Yearbook Update: 

Steven/Student Council - representing student voice through action / Bridge between SAC and School Admin / currently 25 SAC members / in Grade 9 50 students applied to be a Grade 9 Rep and they narrowed it down to 17 candidates and ballots have been counted and two grade 9 representatives will be shared 

-many opportunities available for students / leadership opportunities in SAC Fall Fest - October 9th (food vendors and movie night) 

Spirit Week - last week in October 

Semi-Formal - November 6th (5pm-10pm) live DJ 

December- Talent Show and Winter Market 

Tristin/Student Council & Yearbook - Student Activity Fee - helps with student events and clubs Yearbook - we have solid sales every year / opening applications to volunteer on the yearbook / join the google classroom to work on the yearbook

Guidance updates - Grade 9 classroom visits this week and end of the month MLL class visits October 23rd - Post-Secondary Fair 

November - Post-Secondary Application Information will be shared 

October 16th IB Information Night 

MMHS Staff Updates: 

Music Department Updates - York Music Camp September (19th-21st), Jazz Band, Repertoire classes 

Hold the Dates: Winter Concert Update Dec 3rd and Dec 4th (Junior and Senior concerts) Art - Support for portfolio development needed for post-secondary applications lunch sessions / encourage students to connect with members of the Art department 

Science Department 

HOSA - Medical Chapter/ Future Health Professionals, formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America: and international career and technical student organization YSS - Young Scientists Society: Departments STEM club/ Experiments and Hand-on Learning that offers G9 and 10. Homework Help: start date October 2025 

EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS (2026

University of Toronto National Biology Competition (NBC) April 2026 

University of Waterloo - CHEM 13 News Exam and Avogadro Exam 

University of Waterloo Sir Isaac Newton (SIN) Competition 

Tech Department: First Robotics Canada team. Looking for parent involvement with the team as mentors who may have an engineering and design background or coding or specializing in promotion and fundraising. 

Math Department - All Math competitions have been set up online / please pay there online 

VP Updates 

Fire Drills, Lockdown Drills and Hold and Secure Drills this week and next (Safety Week Monday September 22, to Friday October 3, 2025)

Importance of Relationships and Ongoing communication 

Student enrolment approximately 1710+ (last year was 1590 in Sept) 

Leadership Team Meeting after school today. Determining MMHS priorities for 2025-2026. We are considering how to action: 

  • Supports for MLL Students 

  • Mental health of staff and students 

  • Equity (CRRP, dismantling anti-Black racism, Anti-Oppression) 

  • Assessment and Evaluation to support student learning 

Fall 2025: HUBs & Professional Learning Communities to make a positive impact. Continuing to promote a Culture of Care and Respect
