Meet the Milliken Mills High School students who turned their interest in environmental science into provincial recognition.
The students, part of the school's Green Inc. team, earn first and second place in the York Regional Envirothon. They advanced to represent the Region at the 2026 Ontario Envirothon Championships held at the University of Waterloo where they achieved an impressive third-place finish in the province. Their accomplishments were recently recognized through a YRDSB Applause Award.
Competing against the top 12 teams in Ontario, Milliken Mills students distinguished themselves through exceptional teamwork, environmental knowledge, and problem-solving skills.
Led by Forests Canada, the Ontario Envirothon is an environmental education program that challenges students through hands-on learning focused on forestry, wildlife, aquatic ecology, soils and current environmental issues.
Watch the short video to learn how the students prepared for the competition, used hands-on scientific tools, and collaborated across YRDSB and Ontario to tackle real-world environmental challenges.
